This June we took our first ever trip to Milwaukee, WI to mark another state of on our quest to Race in all 50 States.

We found a nice hotel downtown and arrived the evening before the race so we could pick up our packets and get some rest before the Half Marathon the next morning.  The hotel had a nice rooftop balcony with views into the city.

When we woke the next morning to something we have yet to experience on the morning of a big race... RAIN.  Lots of it.  We didn't think to bring umbrellas, so Lisa had the great idea of asking the front desk for large garbage bags that we could use as ponchos.  We cut head and hole arms into it and it worked great!

We then walked about a half mile to the start location and then had about 30 minutes in the rain before the race started.  As we made our way to the start line, we found this sign that was pretty funny with our current situation :)

Luckily, right about the time we started running...the rain stopped! It was clear and nice the rest of the morning and it kept the day nice and cool.  We started off running a couple of miles over an interstate bridge which they had closed down for the race.  It was pretty cool to have that much space available with a nice view and we got to see the leaders come back by in the other direction.

The route went north and then back south all along the coast with some really nice views.  Just before the turn around, it was a really nice wooded area that felt like taking a stroll through a national forest park.  Then coming back down we saw lots of beach and people playing sand volleyball.  It makes the run so much nicer if there are interesting things to see along the way.

I took a few seconds to take a video of the beautiful scenery in the last couple of miles of the race.  This was probably the most beautiful race we've done so far!  Hopefully we can find cool races like this as we plan the rest of the states.  Let me know if you have any race suggestions :)
